Mumbai to Pune Shifting Checklist

3–4 weeks before the move

• Get quotes from 2–3 movers and check exactly what is included: packing material, loading, transport, unloading, unpacking and transit insurance.
• Fix your moving date early. Month-end and weekends are the busiest days for movers.
• Make a simple inventory of large items (furniture, appliances, vehicles) so every quote is based on the same list.
• Inform your housing society in Mumbai and ask about their rules for shifting — NOC, lift booking and allowed timings.

2 weeks before

• Declutter. Sell, donate or discard what you do not need — less volume means a smaller vehicle and less packing.
• Ask your new society in Pune about lift booking and entry timings for the moving vehicle.
• Start your address change: bank, gas connection transfer, internet, insurance and any subscriptions.
• Collect school transfer certificates and medical records if you have children or ongoing treatment.

1 week before

• Pack things you rarely use: books, decor, seasonal clothes, extra utensils.
• If you are moving a car or bike, keep copies of the RC and insurance ready. Both cities are in Maharashtra, so the vehicle does not need re-registration — only the address on the RC needs updating later.
• Use up perishable food and plan simple meals for the last few days.
• Defrost and dry the refrigerator at least 24 hours before moving day.

On moving day

• Keep an essentials bag with you: phone chargers, medicines, a change of clothes, toiletries and important documents.
• Carry jewellery, cash and documents yourself — never send them in the truck.
• Take photos of expensive items and electronics before they are packed.
• Walk through every room and cupboard before the truck leaves.

Monsoon moves (June–September)

The Mumbai–Pune route sees heavy rain through the monsoon, especially in the ghat section. Ask your mover to use waterproof wrapping (stretch film) on furniture, mattresses and cartons, and keep electronics in sealed boxes.

After you arrive in Pune

• Check every item against your inventory before the team leaves and note any damage right away.
• Unpack the kitchen and bedrooms first so the house is usable on day one.
• Update your address on Aadhaar, bank accounts and your vehicle RC.
